Adaptable Themes: Building for the Unknown

Once a theme is released into the wild it begins to change. It’ll start to hang out with content you never expected, experiment with exotic plugins, try to speak Farsi, and perhaps even renounce it’s original background-color. To survive, themes need to be able to adapt. I’ll talk about my experiences releasing free and commercial themes that are used on thousands of websites. We’ll cover theme unit tests, translation, widget areas, unique menu implementations, and the theme customizer. Hopefully there will be something for everyone, whether you are selling commercial themes or building your own first website.
